There is a near-universal appeal in historical activities. Perhaps it’s a reflection on the crazy, tech-filled lives we live now. Old-time martial activities seem to be especially appealing. Thus, we are adding Archery to our Boomer Bucket List.

Why Try Archery?

Besides being downright cool, Archery provides some definite benefits.

Mental Focus

Archery offers a way to achieve single-minded focus. The precision required to hit a target demands concentration, taking us away from outside distractions.

Physical Activity and Well-Being

Staying active is critical for healthy aging, and archery offers a low-impact yet engaging form of exercise. Drawing a bow engages core muscles, enhances balance, and improves posture – all important factors in maintaining physical vitality. Additionally, the nature of the movements involved with archery promotes joint flexibility and strengthens muscles.

Social Connection

Archery can promote camaraderie and community. Whether joining a local club or participating in archery workshops or classes, there is the opportunity to forge meaningful connections with like-minded individuals.

First Steps

The first step in trying Archery would be to locate an Archery club, Archery range, or possibly a class at a park district or Community College. It is best not to try learning without instruction as a proper instructor can show you the proper equipment and how to use it without injuring yourself.

So, grab a bow, and give it a shot (pun not intended, but I’ll own it).
